The chronograph version of the Series 800, in two tone. The bezel and half the bracelet links are gold tone, the case and the rest of the bracelet are steel, and the dial is black with three sunken registers on it. The Movado dot still sits at twelve, doing the same job it does on the plainer models. Case and Wrist Presence A round steel case with a gold-tone bezel carrying a fine scale around its edge, and crown guards on the right around the crown and two chronograph pushers. Two-tone watches read larger than single-metal ones because the eye follows the break between the colours, so this looks like a substantial piece on the wrist. Dial and Legibility Black, with three registers laid across it and gold-tone applied batons for the hours. The hands are gold tone. At twelve, the plain round dot instead of a marker. The registers are a darker black than the dial around them, which is how they stay legible without needing contrasting rings. A framed date window sits on the right side of the dial and SWISS MADE is printed at six. Movement and Functions This is a chronograph. The pushers above and below the crown start, stop and reset a stopwatch, and the three registers on the dial hold the elapsed time. A chronograph is one of the few complications you actually use: timing a run, a phone call or how long something has been in the oven, without reaching for a phone. Bracelet and Fit A two-tone bracelet with gold-tone centre links between steel outers, tapering toward the clasp. Two-tone bracelets are the most divisive thing in watches and also the most versatile, because they sit comfortably next to either a gold or a silver ring. Sizing is by link removal. Who This Watch Suits Someone who already wears gold jewellery and wants a watch that matches without committing to a full gold-tone bracelet. It is a dress-leaning chronograph rather than a sports one. Care and Maintenance The gold-tone sections are plated, so wipe rather than polish them and keep them away from chlorine. Do not use the chronograph pushers while the watch is wet. Clean the bracelet with warm water and a soft brush and dry between the links. About the Brand Movado is a Swiss watch house best known for the Museum dial, which replaced every numeral with a single dot at twelve. Even on a busy chronograph face the dot survives, and it is the fastest way to identify the brand.
