The bezel does the talking here. Half of it is blue, half is red, split at the top by a luminous pip, and it turns over a matte black dial that gives away nothing but the time and the date. SERIES 800 sits under the Movado dot in small red type. Case and Wrist Presence A thick steel case with a coin-edged bezel that stands slightly proud of the glass, so it takes the knocks before the crystal does. The crown is fluted and set into a small guard on the right. The proportions are diver proportions: tall sides, short lugs, plenty of weight low down. Brushed on the flat surfaces, polished on the case flanks. Dial and Legibility Flat black with a printed inner ring carrying the minute track and five-minute numerals in white. The hour markers are applied batons filled with luminous material, longer at twelve, six and nine, and the hands are broad and pointed. This is a dial built to be read in a hurry from an angle, and the black flange behind the markers is what makes the white pop the way it does. SWISS MADE is printed above six. Functions Hours, minutes, a centre seconds hand and a date in a framed window at three. The bezel rotates in one direction only. Set the luminous pip against the minute hand when you start something and the elapsed minutes are readable off the coloured ring at a glance, with the blue half covering the first thirty minutes and the red the second. Because it turns one way, a knock can only ever shorten the time you read, not lengthen it. Bracelet and Fit A three-row steel bracelet, brushed with a polished centre link, sized by removing links. Set it so the case sits just behind the wrist bone. A dive-style watch worn loose rides up the arm and then the bezel is exactly where a shirt cuff catches it. Who This Watch Suits Someone who wants the red-and-blue bezel look with a Swiss dial behind it, and a single watch that goes from the office to a weekend without looking out of place in either. Care and Maintenance Rinse the case and bracelet after sea or pool water and dry them properly; salt left in the bezel teeth is what makes a rotating ring gritty. Never turn the bezel or pull the crown while the watch is wet. Battery changes belong to a watchmaker who will replace the seals at the same time.
