Gunmetal from the bezel to the clasp, with a black dial and cream markers in the middle of it. It is a monochrome watch in a grey that is not quite black and not quite steel, and the warm markers are the only thing that breaks it. Case and Wrist Presence A dark grey case with a coin-edged rotating bezel and a black insert, and a single knurled crown at three. There are no pushers to catch the back of your hand. Gunmetal has a quieter surface than polished steel: it shows the shape of the case without throwing light off it, and against a dark sleeve the watch reads as a solid form rather than an outline. Dial and Legibility Flat black with applied markers filled in warm cream – dots through most of the hours, batons at six and nine, a broad triangle at twelve – and cream-filled hands. A printed minute track runs around the rim, MOVADO sits above centre with calendoplan S in italic below, and the date shows through a framed window at three. Cream on black is a softer contrast than white but it is still an uncluttered dial, and with nothing else competing the time reads at a glance. Movement and Functions Hours, minutes, seconds and date, with the date set from the crown. The bezel turns to mark elapsed time – align the pip with the minute hand and read the scale. That is the whole feature set, and it is a fair argument that it is all a watch of this type needs. Bracelet and Fit A three-row bracelet in the same gunmetal finish, brushed with polished centre links and a folding clasp. Sizing is done by removing links. A coloured finish wears fastest where metal rubs metal, so a bracelet fitted properly will hold its look longer than one left loose enough to slide up and down the wrist. Who This Watch Suits Someone who wants a dive-styled watch that is neither bright steel nor blacked-out. Gunmetal sits between the two and it is a genuinely different look on the wrist. Care and Maintenance Keep chlorinated water away from the plating and rinse off salt and sweat, drying the bracelet fully afterwards. Grit under the bezel makes it turn roughly – a rinse at the edge sorts it. Never use polish or an abrasive cloth on a coated case or bracelet. Have a watchmaker replace the battery and reseat the gasket. About the Brand Calendoplan is Movado’s calendar name and the S models take it into a sports case with a rotating bezel.
