Green under gold is a combination most brands leave alone. Here the bezel insert and the dial are the same deep olive-green, the case and markers are yellow gold, and the brown strap ties the two together. Case and Wrist Presence A gold-tone case with a coin-edged rotating bezel and a green insert set into it. Two cylindrical pushers flank a knurled crown on the right. The bezel is the deepest part of the profile and gives the watch real thickness at the edge, which is what stops a gold sports watch looking flat. Polished gold throws a lot of light, so this is not a quiet watch on the wrist. Dial and Legibility Deep green with applied gold markers and gold hands, MOVADO printed above centre and calendoplan S in italic beneath. Three registers cross the middle and lower dial with pale printing, and the date shows through an aperture at six. A lighter green chapter ring runs around the outside carrying the minute track, and the bezel is graduated to sixty with a pip at zero. Gold on green is a warm and fairly low contrast pairing – handsome in daylight, less quick to read indoors. Movement and Functions Upper pusher starts and stops the chronograph, lower pusher zeroes it, with the elapsed time gathering in the sub-registers. The date is set from the crown. The bezel turns for timing anything you did not start the chronograph for: align the zero with the minute hand and read the elapsed minutes straight off the scale. Strap and Fit Mid-brown leather with a coarse grain and contrast stitching, tapering to a pin buckle. Brown is the right choice against gold and green – black would have split the watch into two halves. Thick leather takes a couple of weeks to soften and shape, and it will darken where the buckle sits. Who This Watch Suits Someone looking for a sports chronograph with an unusual palette. Green dials come and go; green under gold is rarer still, and this is not a watch anyone will mistake for something else. Care and Maintenance Keep the pushers still while the case is wet. Gold-tone plating is a surface coating: dry cloth only, no polish, no abrasives, and keep it well away from chlorinated water. Grit in the bezel teeth makes the action rough, so rinse and dry the edge from time to time. Leather stays dry. A watchmaker should do the battery and reseat the gasket.
