Case and Wrist Presence The case is 44mm and ion-plated in gunmetal, a grey dark enough to read as black in most light. Pushers flank the crown on the right and give the case its stepped profile. A watch this size needs a wrist of roughly 17cm or more to sit properly, but the dark finish takes some of the visual weight out of it, so it looks less imposing than a polished case of the same diameter. Dial and Legibility Black, with the hour batons and hands finished in bright polished steel so they cut clear of the background. A large outlined Arabic 12 sits at the top. The tachymeter scale is printed in white on a sloped inner flange, and one register is ringed in bright steel while the other two are left dark, which is what keeps a busy dial from turning into noise. Functions Three registers occupy the middle of the dial: one at nine with a red-tipped hand and its own marked scale, one at three, and one at six. The central seconds hand runs over all of them. The tachymeter flange is a fixed conversion scale for working out speed from elapsed time, and it stays useful even if you never use it for that. Strap, Clasp and Fit Black leather with a grain that catches the light along the length of the strap and stitching in the same black thread, so the strap reads as one continuous piece. It is stiff out of the box and gives after a fortnight of wear. The buckle sets the fit in fixed steps, which is why leather is worth choosing the hole for rather than settling on: too tight and the case leaves a mark, too loose and it rolls. Who This Watch Suits Someone who wants a large, dark, technical-looking watch and does not want it to glint. All black works better against a leather jacket than against a suit. Care and Maintenance Ion plating scratches from grit rather than from ordinary contact, so keep the case away from sandpaper-like surfaces and clean it with a dry soft cloth only.
