This is the version of the Movado face that keeps its markers. Roman numerals run down one side of the dial and slim batons down the other, all in rose gold on a silver sunray ground, with the familiar dot at twelve holding the top of the circle. Case and Wrist Presence A round steel case, polished on the rim and flanks, with a narrow bezel that gives most of the width over to the dial. The lugs are short and squared, and the crown is a fluted button at three. There is nothing sculptural about the case, which suits a dial that has this much going on in it. Dial and Legibility Silver, brushed in fine rays from the centre outward so it shifts between pale and bright as the wrist turns. The markers sit in a ring on a slightly raised outer track: Roman numerals through the left half, tapered batons through the right, all applied in rose gold. The hands match. Rose gold against silver is warmer and softer than a black-handed dial, and legible in most light without ever being stark. MOVADO is printed near six. Movement and Functions Quartz, hours and minutes. No date, no seconds hand, no complication of any kind. Bracelet and Fit A steel bracelet of wide flat links with polished centres and brushed edges, joined by narrow open connectors that keep it flexible. Links are removed to size it. Set it so the case sits on the flat of the wrist rather than rolling to the side, which is where a heavy flat-link bracelet tends to end up if it is left loose. Who This Watch Suits Someone who wants the Movado dot but finds a completely blank dial impractical. Having numerals for half the circle turns it back into a watch you can read at speed. Care and Maintenance Wash the steel bracelet in warm soapy water with a soft brush and dry it fully, paying attention to the clasp. Avoid abrasive cloths on the rose gold markers side of things by keeping polish away from the crystal. Battery and gasket should be replaced at the same time by a watchmaker. About the Brand Movado has been Swiss since 1881, and the dot at twelve comes from the Museum dial of 1947. On this dial the dot shares the space with numerals, which is a rarer arrangement in the brand’s catalogue.
