A blacked-out chronograph with steel running down the centre of the bracelet. The two-tone band is what keeps this from being a solid dark block on the wrist, and it is the only bright metal anywhere on the watch. Case and Wrist Presence Black across the case, the coin-edged rotating bezel and both pushers, with a black knurled crown between them on the right flank. The bezel insert is black too, marked with a count-up scale in cream. Nothing on the case catches light, so the outline reads as a single shape and the watch looks smaller than it measures until you see it against a cuff. Dial and Legibility Black with applied markers, white-filled hands and cream accents at the quarters. MOVADO is printed above centre with calendoplan S in italic below and SWISS MADE at the foot. Three registers sit across the middle and lower dial in a slightly lighter grey-black, and the date shows in an aperture at six. A chapter ring carries the minute track. On a dial this dark the white minute hand and the printed ring do the real work; the sub-registers are for looking at, not glancing at. Movement and Functions Upper pusher starts and stops the timing, lower pusher zeroes it, with elapsed minutes gathering in the sub-registers. The date is corrected from the crown. The bezel turns independently so an elapsed period can be marked without pressing anything – line the pip up with the minute hand and read the scale. Bracelet and Fit A three-row bracelet with black outer links and polished steel centre links, closing on a steel folding clasp with a push-button release. Sizing is by link removal and it should be done by a jeweller, because a slipped tool leaves a permanent mark on a coated link. The steel centres will stay bright while the black outers age, which is a look some owners like and worth knowing about before you buy. Who This Watch Suits Someone who wants a blacked-out sports chronograph with a bit of contrast in it. The steel down the middle stops the watch disappearing into a dark sleeve. Care and Maintenance Keep the pushers still while the watch is wet. Black coatings wear where metal rubs metal, so a snug bracelet lasts better than a loose one; rinse and dry rather than scrubbing, and keep chlorinated water away. Rinse the bezel edge to keep grit out of the action. No polish, no abrasives. A watchmaker should fit the battery and reseat the gasket. About the Brand Movado has been Swiss since 1881.
