Grey metal, black bezel, black dial. This is the darkest version of the Calendoplan S chronograph and the only bright things on it are the white-filled hands and a few cream accents on the bezel scale. Case and Wrist Presence A gunmetal case with a coin-edged rotating bezel and a black insert. Two cylindrical pushers flank a knurled crown on the right flank. Gunmetal has the depth of a metal case without the reflection, so the watch reads as a solid dark form; on a matching bracelet the effect carries all the way round the wrist and the whole piece looks heavier than it is. Dial and Legibility Black with applied markers and white-filled hands, MOVADO printed above centre and calendoplan S in italic below. Three registers cross the middle and lower dial with pale printing, and the date sits in an aperture at six. Cream numerals mark the count-up scale on the bezel with a pip at zero. A chapter ring around the dial carries the minute track. On an all-dark watch, that white minute hand does most of the work – track it against the printed ring rather than trying to read the sub-registers from across a room. Movement and Functions Start and stop on the upper pusher, reset on the lower, with elapsed minutes collected in the sub-registers. The date is corrected from the crown. The bezel rotates independently, so an elapsed period can also be marked by turning the pip to the minute hand – the method that needs no button and no memory of when you pressed it. Bracelet and Fit A three-row bracelet in matching gunmetal, brushed with polished centre links and a folding clasp. It is sized by removing links, which is a jeweller’s job. Coloured finishes wear where metal rubs metal, so a properly fitted bracelet keeps its look far longer than one left loose enough to slide. Who This Watch Suits Someone who wants a dive-styled chronograph without any brightwork on it. It is the most discreet watch in the line despite being the busiest. Care and Maintenance Never work the pushers while the case is wet. Keep chlorinated water off the plating and rinse away salt and sweat, drying the bracelet fully. Grit under a rotating bezel makes the action rough – a rinse at the edge fixes it. No polish, no abrasive cloths. A watchmaker should fit the battery and reseat the gasket. About the Brand The Calendoplan S puts Movado’s calendar-watch name into a sports case with a turning bezel and a full chronograph layout. In gunmetal it is the least formal thing the brand puts on a bracelet.
