A black case with rose gold markers, hung on tan leather. Three materials, three temperatures, and the tan strap is what keeps the blacked-out case from swallowing the whole watch. Case and Wrist Presence Round, with a black finish carried across the bezel, caseband, pushers and crown, so there is no bright metal anywhere on the outside. The lugs curve down and taper. Two cylindrical pushers flank the fluted crown on the right. Blacked-out cases read smaller than they measure because the outline has no highlight to trace; on a tan strap that effect is stronger still, since the eye goes to the leather first. Dial and Legibility Matte black with applied rose gold-tone markers – a wide triangle at twelve, tapered batons around the rest – and matching rose gold hands. MOVADO is printed in white above centre with calendoplan in italic below. The two chronograph registers are white with black printing: sixty minutes at three, thirty at six. Warm metal on black is a good-looking combination and a moderate one for contrast, so the white registers and the white minute track do most of the actual work. The weekday arc runs SUN to SAT on the left and the date sits in a framed window at four thirty. Movement and Functions Start and stop on the upper pusher, reset on the lower. Elapsed seconds run on the central hand and elapsed minutes gather in the sub-registers. Day and date are set from the crown. The day is shown by a pointer travelling across the full week rather than by a letter in a slot, which is the detail the Calendoplan name refers to. Strap and Fit Tan leather with a suede-finished reverse, stitched in matching thread and tapered to a pin buckle. Light brown against black is the sharpest contrast this case takes, and the strap will darken with wear rather than fade – most tan leather looks better at a year old than it does new. Adjustment is hole by hole. Who This Watch Suits Someone who likes a blacked-out case but does not want an all-black watch. This is the version with something to look at. Care and Maintenance Keep the pushers still when the watch is wet. Black coatings scuff where they rub – the caseback and lug undersides first – so avoid grit and never use polish or an abrasive cloth. Tan leather stains easily; keep it away from water, ink and denim dye. A watchmaker should fit the battery and reseat the case gasket. About the Brand Movado built the Calendoplan around its calendar display. The weekday arc is the part that survives across every version of the dial, whatever the case colour underneath it.
