Rose gold around a black dial, on grey leather. The warm case and the cool strap pull in opposite directions and the black dial sits between them holding it together. Case and Wrist Presence A round rose gold-tone case with a narrow polished bezel and lugs that curve down sharply to the strap. Two cylindrical pushers stand either side of a fluted crown on the right flank. Rose plating shifts between copper and pink depending on the light, which gives a plain case shape something to do; against a black dial it also gives the markers more warmth than yellow gold would. Dial and Legibility Matte black with applied rose gold-tone markers – a broad triangle at twelve and tapered batons at the other hours – and a printed minute track at the rim. MOVADO sits above centre with calendoplan in italic below. The two chronograph registers are white with black printing: sixty minutes at three, thirty at six. Those white discs carry the legibility here, because rose gold on black is handsome but not high-contrast. The weekday arc curves from SUN to SAT on the left with a fine pointer over it, and a framed date window sits at four thirty. Movement and Functions Upper pusher to start and stop, lower pusher to reset. The central hand sweeps the seconds and the sub-registers hold the accumulated minutes. Day and date are corrected from the crown. The weekday arc keeps the whole week on the dial – useful on a Monday, and more legible than a single abbreviation cut into an aperture. Strap and Fit Grey leather with a soft grain and tonal stitching, padded through the middle and tapered to a pin buckle. Grey is an unusual choice against rose gold and it works because it is neutral – it lets the case colour be the only warm thing on the watch. Leather takes its shape in the first fortnight; move the buckle a hole once it has settled. Who This Watch Suits Someone who has decided against yellow gold but still wants a warm case. The grey strap keeps the whole thing from reading as jewellery. Care and Maintenance Do not press the pushers while the case is wet. Rose gold plating is thin: clean it with a dry cloth and keep it away from polish, abrasives, perfume and chlorinated water. Leather should stay dry, because a soaked strap dries stiff and then cracks at the fold. Have a watchmaker fit the battery and reseat the gasket. About the Brand Calendoplan is Movado’s calendar name, and it belongs to this dial because of the arc. Showing the days as a scale rather than a window is the older method, and it is the one that tells you where the week is going.
