White on black is as legible as watch dials get, and against a matt black case the dial almost floats – there is no bright bezel ring framing it. The centre seconds hand is white and thin. The dial stays a single black field with markers on it, which is what makes the white read so cleanly. Fabric is the practical choice for a watch worn casually: it does not harden after a soaking, it rinses clean, and it costs almost nothing to replace. It does collect lint, so brush it occasionally.
