This is the dark version of the Meccanico. Same open dial, same 43mm steel case, but the chapter ring is black and the skeleton behind it reads grey and shadowed rather than bright. On a black croc-embossed leather strap it becomes a formal watch that happens to show its gears. \n Case and Wrist Presence \n The case is stainless steel, polished, 43mm across, with a slim bezel and gently curved lugs. Because the bezel is narrow the dial opening is wide, and the black ring around the outside makes the whole face read as a single dark disc from a distance. On a medium to large wrist it sits flat and covers a good part of the wrist top. There is no crown guard, which keeps the profile clean. \n Dial and Legibility \n A black outer ring carries the minute track and eight polished steel batons. Inside it the dial is cut open across the centre, showing bridges, wheels and the balance below the middle. The white skeleton spokes cross the opening and give the hands something to register against. Contrast is good at the outer markers, less good near the centre where silver hands cross silver gearing – you will find yourself reading the minute hand’s tip rather than the whole hand. No lume. \n Movement and Functions \n The movement is on display through the front of the dial: mainplate, bridges, gear teeth and the oscillating balance. Hours, minutes and a central seconds hand only. Nothing else competes for the space. \n Strap and Fit \n Black leather with a crocodile-grain embossing, matched to the case width and tapering toward the buckle. Embossed leather like this starts stiff and firm and softens across the first month of wear, taking the curve of your wrist and holding it. Keep it out of the rain – water dries the finish out and leaves a tide line at the fold. When it eventually wears through at the buckle hole, it is a straightforward strap to replace. \n Who This Watch Suits \n Someone who wants the mechanical theatre of a skeleton dial without the brightness. Wipe the case and crystal with a soft cloth.
