Forty-seven millimetres. That is the first thing to understand about this watch, because everything else follows from it – the three full-size registers, the wide black inner bezel, the thick leather strap. It is built to be seen from the other side of a table. Case and Wrist Presence The case is polished stainless steel and very wide, with a glossy black ring set inside the bezel that pulls the eye towards the dial. Forty-seven millimetres needs a wrist to carry it: under about 18cm the lugs will reach the edges. The upside is that at this size nothing on the dial is cramped, and the three sub-dials sit well clear of one another instead of overlapping the way they do on a 40mm case. Silver on black across a 47mm dial is about as legible as a watch gets – the markers are long, the hands are broad, and there is space between everything. Movement and Functions Quartz. The chronograph runs on the two pushers either side of the crown: upper to start and stop, lower to reset. The registers gather elapsed minutes and hours, so a long run is read as easily as a short one. The date steps at midnight and needs correcting after months of fewer than 31 days. Strap and Fit Thick black leather with a heavy contrast stitch running down both edges – a deliberately rugged strap to balance a case this size. A thin dress strap would have looked wrong under 47mm of steel. The leather is stiff at first and takes a month of wear to soften, after which it holds a comfortable set. Replace it when the leather splits at the lug rather than waiting for the spring bar to let go. Who This Watch Suits Someone with a broad wrist who wants the watch to be part of the outfit rather than under the sleeve. It suits an open collar and a jacket, and it is genuinely useful if you time things and want to read the result without leaning in. Care and Maintenance Stop and zero the chronograph when you are done – a running chronograph is the fastest way to flatten a battery. Polished steel takes light scratches that a jeweller can lift. Keep the leather dry, and have the gasket reseated whenever the caseback is opened.
