Women’s Watches size guide
Women's Watch Size Comparison with South African Coins

Visualizing Size with SA Currency

To help you visualize case diameters before you buy, compare these standard sizes to the South African Rand coins in your wallet:

  • 28mm – 30mm: Similar to a 50c coin (28.8mm). Ideal for petite wrists.
  • 32mm – 34mm: Slightly larger than a R5 coin (26mm). The most versatile daily size.
  • 36mm – 40mm: Larger than any SA coin. Best for bold “Boyfriend” styles or smartwatches.

The “Flat Surface” Rule

Measure the flat width of the top of your wrist. For the best fit, the “lugs” should never extend past the edges of your arm. Overhanging lugs make a watch look bulky and feel unstable.

Hypoallergenic Materials

If you have sensitive skin, prioritize these materials:

  • 316L Steel: Surgical grade with low nickel.
  • Titanium: 100% biocompatible and ultra-light.
  • Silicone: The best choice for cycling/sport.

The Chronometer

A Chronometer is a certification of extreme accuracy. It means the watch has been tested to stay accurate within seconds per day regardless of conditions.

The Moonphase

A Moonphase tracks the 29.5-day lunar cycle. It is a beautiful celestial complication often used to track personal wellness rhythms.

Smartwatches & Women’s Health

Look for these specific metrics to get the most out of your wearable:

  • Cycle Tracking: Uses wrist temperature to provide ovulation estimates.
  • SpO2 & Sleep: Measures blood oxygen and analyzes deep/REM sleep cycles.
  • Body Battery: (Garmin specific) Tracks your energy levels throughout the day.

Watch Sizing & Tech FAQs

WhatsApp: +27 68 674 1046

What is the most popular size for women?
The 32mm to 34mm range is the most popular. It is large enough to be readable but small enough to remain elegant for formal occasions.

Can I wear a 40mm watch on a small wrist?
Yes, if you prefer the “Boyfriend” look. Just ensure the strap can be tightened enough to keep the health sensors in contact with your skin.

Is titanium better than stainless steel?
For sensitive skin, yes. Titanium is 100% biocompatible and nickel-free, making it the top choice for preventing rashes.

What does “10 ATM” mean?
10 ATM means water-resistant to 100 meters. This is the minimum rating we recommend for regular swimming or snorkeling.

Daniel Wellington Classic Cambridge DW00100003: Red, White and Blue on Rose Gold

The Classic Cambridge DW00100003 is a 40 mm quartz watch with a rose gold case, a white dial and a nylon NATO strap striped in red, white and blue. Of the early Classic references it is the one with the most traditional nautical feel, since the three-colour stripe is the pattern most people associate with a NATO band. The rest of the watch stays calm: rose gold hands, thin markers and nothing on the dial but the time.

At 40 mm it sits in the unisex range. Retail listings differ on whether it is a men’s or unisex model, and the sizing supports either, particularly given how thin the case is.

Case Construction

The case is round, 40 mm in diameter and 6 mm thick, made of stainless steel with a rose gold finish. The bezel is fixed and the same rose gold tone as the case, so the outline reads as a single warm ring around the white dial. A pull crown sits on the right-hand side, and the back is a snap-on steel plate. Scratch-resistant mineral glass covers the dial.

  • Round 40 mm case – proportions that sit comfortably on most wrists
  • 6 mm thickness – low enough to pass under a cuff
  • Mineral glass – resists everyday scratches better than plain acrylic

Dial and Hands

The dial is white, with a matt finish and slim stick-shaped hour markers. Both hands are rose gold, and the brand name appears in small black lettering near the top. No date, no sub-dials and no second time zone: the Cambridge is built for glancing at, not for measuring. Contrast between the black print and the white dial is high, so the time is readable in poor light.

Quartz Movement

A Japanese quartz movement drives the hands. In practice that means it runs from a small battery, stays accurate to within a few seconds a month, and needs no winding. It displays hours, minutes and a sweeping seconds hand. When the cell is eventually exhausted, a watchmaker can swap it quickly.

The Red, White and Blue Strap

The strap is woven nylon in a three-colour stripe, 20 mm wide, finished with a rose gold buckle. The buckle matches the case, which keeps the metalwork consistent from lug to lug. NATO-style bands slide through the spring bars and sit flat against the wrist, and because the material is textile it is light and quick to dry. The Daniel Wellington strap system is interchangeable, so a black or brown leather band can replace it if you want a more formal look.

  • Striped textile band – bold colour set against a restrained dial
  • Rose gold buckle – same finish as the case
  • Easy to change – standard spring-bar fitting

Water Resistance

The watch is rated to 3 ATM, equal to 30 metres. It will cope with rain, a washed hand or a light splash. It should stay out of the pool, the shower and the sea.

About the Classic Cambridge

Cambridge belongs to the first run of Classic watches, all named after places in the United Kingdom. Daniel Wellington started in Sweden in 2011 with the idea of a simple, slim watch on an interchangeable strap, and the Classic range has carried that idea ever since. This reference is a discontinued earlier model, which is part of its appeal for people who remember the original lineup.

Who Will Enjoy It

  • Readers of understated design – one hand pair, one colour accent
  • Wearers who change straps often – the case works with leather, mesh or other NATO bands
  • Anyone buying a gift – an instantly recognisable look in a sensible size

Looking After It

Dry the case with a soft cloth after contact with water. Wash the nylon band with mild soap and let it dry flat. Keep the watch away from strong magnets, solvents and perfumes. Have battery changes done by a professional so the case back is closed correctly.
